Resize Image for Instagram
Pick a format, drop your photo. We auto center-crop to the exact aspect ratio Instagram requires, then scale to 1080px. Upload directly — no in-app crop prompt.
Why You Need Exact Instagram Sizes
Instagram silently crops, downscales, and re-encodes anything you upload that doesn't already match its target dimensions. The result: heads cut off in carousels, blurry text in Stories, washed-out colors in Reels covers, and pixelated profile pictures. Uploading at the exact specified pixel dimension means Instagram's server has nothing to do — your image lands on the feed exactly as you authored it.
This tool locks you to the five canonical 2025 Instagram dimensions and auto-applies a centered crop so the output ratio always matches. Unlike a freeform image resizer where you fiddle with width and height inputs, here you pick the format and the math is handled for you.
Instagram 2025 Image Specifications
| Format | Pixels | Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Square Post | 1080 × 1080 | 1:1 |
| Portrait Post | 1080 × 1350 | 4:5 |
| Landscape Post | 1080 × 566 | 1.91:1 |
| Story / Reel | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 |
| Profile Picture | 320 × 320 | 1:1 |
How the Auto-Crop Works
- Pick your Instagram format Select Square, Portrait, Landscape, Story / Reel, or Profile Picture. Each preset has the exact pixel dimension Instagram uses.
- Drop your photo Drag or browse up to 10 files. JPG, PNG, and WebP all work. Great for batch-formatting an entire carousel at once.
- Center-crop and scale The tool computes the largest centered crop matching the target aspect ratio (e.g. 1:1 for Square), then scales it to 1080px using high-quality interpolation.

Files are renamed with the preset (e.g.

Tips Before You Upload
Subject placement. Because the crop is always centered, place important subjects (faces, text, logos) near the middle of your source photo. If your subject sits in a corner, use our manual crop tool first to reframe before bringing the result here.
Source resolution. Upload source images at least 1080px on the shortest relevant side. Smaller sources will be upscaled, which Instagram itself would do anyway, but starting from a higher-resolution source always yields a sharper feed.
Carousels. Instagram requires every photo in a carousel to share the same aspect ratio. Process all carousel photos with the same preset here and they will land in a perfectly aligned grid.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the exact Instagram image sizes in 2025?
Square Post 1080×1080 (1:1). Portrait Post 1080×1350 (4:5). Landscape Post 1080×566 (1.91:1). Story and Reel 1080×1920 (9:16). Profile Picture displayed at 320×320 (1:1).
Why 1080 pixels and not 4K?
Instagram displays all feed content at a maximum width of 1080 pixels. Anything larger is silently downscaled by Instagram's server, often with worse compression than ours. Uploading at exactly 1080px gives you control over the output.
What if I upload a portrait photo to a Square preset?
The tool center-crops to the largest square that fits inside your image, then scales to 1080×1080. The crop is always centered. If you need to choose a different crop region, use our crop tool first, then bring the cropped image here.
Can I use this for Reels covers?
Yes. The Story / Reel preset is 1080×1920 (9:16), which is the spec for both the Reel video frame and the cover image you upload from camera roll. Note that the cover preview shown in the grid is cropped to 1:1, so keep your subject centered.
Is anything uploaded to a server?
No. All cropping and scaling runs entirely in your browser using HTML5 Canvas. Your image never leaves your device. No account, no tracking, no file retention.
